Teen Banding Camp

August 6-10, 2012 – registration is now open!

Spend a week this summer with other teens learning how to band birds in the Cascade Mountains of central Washington…

Teen Banding CampPSBO’s Cascade Meadows Teen Banding Camp trains youth ages 15-18 in bird-banding techniques, from setting up nets and extracting birds, to attaching bands and identifying the birds’ species, age, sex, and other characteristics. The presence of birds of all ages, and in heavy molt, at this location during this time of year offers an ideal opportunity to learn about differences among birds. Further, participants will also be contributing to a local study of how birds use moist high-elevation meadows in the Cascade Mountains to replace their feathers and prepare for southward migration. The data collected will help us unravel the role of these meadows in supporting the birds, and may even provide insight into how the effects of climate change will impact the meadows and the species that rely on them during this short but critical period.

2012 will be our ninth year of Teen Banding Camp!
